Beach and city become one and the same.

I've been experimenting a lot with my tripod and repeating myself on photos. This was a project I had to do mixing two different destinations (Loreto in Mexico and London in the UK). I liked the results so much that I had to share them as an editorial with you. I think they're fun and cool images.

Seoul is the most important city of South Korea and, I'm pretty sure, one of the key places in Asia. It has a little bit of everything: the nightlife is amazing, there are restaurants and cafés everywhere, tons of pretty ladies, good shopping places, COSTCO (with bulgogi pizza, which is the best pizza ever), nice public transportation (with fare fees) and some nice streets to shoot outfit photos.

Ending this month (keeping in mind its theme) with a special review of Seoul seems appropriate. Between the great people I've met and the nice atmosphere I've experienced, I can absolutely say that Seoul is one of the highlights of my whole life. I've had an incredible time in here and I know it's a place I'll miss terribly, since I'll never again be the person I was while being there.

I like the streets of Seoul, they have some pretty cool buildings and it's super safe to take out your tripod and shoot some photos (no burglars in there). Even in a rainy day I felt really comfortable with this outfit. Throw some layers, leather and a huge hat and I'll be a happy man. It also doesn't hurt to carry the King, Mr. Elvis Presley, on my t-shirt. Like I said on a previous post, I love a cool graphic tee. What do you think of the outfit? Furthermore, do you have a city you treasure as much as I do Seoul?

Tiene un poco de todo: la vida nocturna es increíble, hay restaurantes y cafés por todos lados, muchas niñas bonitas, buenos lugares para hacer compras, COSTCO (con pizza de bulgogi, la mejor pizza de la vida), buen transporte público (con precios justos) y algunas calles padres para tomar fotos de atuendos.

Terminar este mes (teniendo en mente su tema) con una crítica especial a Seoul parece algo apropiado. Entre la gente asombrosa que he conocido y la atmósfera buena onda que he experimentado, absolutamente puedo decir que Seoul es una de las mejores cosas que me han pasado. La he pasado increíblemente bien aquí y sé que será un lugar que extrañaré terriblemente, ya que jamás podré volver a ser la persona que era estando ahí.

Me gustan las calles de Seoul, tienen edificios bastante padres y es muy seguro salir y tomar fotos con tu tripié (no asaltos aquí). Aún en un día lluvioso me sentí muy cómodo con este atuendo. Arrojen capas, piel y un sombrero gigante a la mezcla y seré un hombre feliz. Tampoco lastima tener al rey, el señor Elvis Presley, en mi playera. Como dije en un post anterior, amo una buena playera gráfica. ¿Qué opinan del atuendo? Más importante aún, ¿tienen alguna ciudad que atesoren como yo a Seoul?

K-Pop Star (Sammy Dress Collab)

I was approached by the marketing team of Sammy Dress a while ago and they asked me to pick a piece from their online store to review on the blog. I chose a fitted blazer in black with white trimmed lapels that looked really cool.

On their website, Sammy Dress offers Asian style fashion pieces and this blazer fits that description perfectly. It looks like something a K-Pop band could use (errr... EXO, anyone?) and that idea inspired the styling on this look. I went for a cool scholar character and decided to wear a double layer top that was originally see-through instead of an average white shirt and paired that with leather-like trousers and hi-top Adidas sneakers.

The blazer is pretty cool. I think it's a little small for me (I'm wearing a Medium size) but, other than that, I really like it. I love the color scheme and the fit. The fabric is good considering the price for the jacket. I really recommend taking a look at Sammy Dress for more cool pieces. They have a wide range of options and it's really affordable. Thanks for my blazer, guys!

En su página web, Sammy Dress ofrece piezas de moda con estilo asiático y este saco queda perfectamente con esa descripción. Parece algo que un grupo de K-Pop podría usar (mmm... ¿Exo, por ejemplo?) y esa idea inspiró cómo estilé este atuendo. Es como un personaje de escuela buena onda y decidí usar algo arriba con doble capa que era originalmente medio transparente en lugar de una camisa blanca y combiné lo demás con pantalones de polipiel y tennis altos de Adidas.

El blazer está muy padre. Creo que me queda un poco chico (estoy usando talla Mediana) pero, quitando eso, me gusta mucho. Amo la gama de colores y el talle. La tela está bien considerando el precio de la chaqueta. Realmente recomiendo que le echen un ojo a Sammy Dress por más piezas buena onda. Tienen muchas opciones en precios muy accesibles. ¡Gracias por mi saco!

"They're grrreat!"

I was in the middle of taking photos for this outfit when a little fella paid me a visit. It was kinda cute to see a kitty trying to make contact with me and "posing" for a while. Of course, I chose his best shot to publish in here, hehe. It's not easy to see cats or dogs in Korea, so I was pleasantly surprised by his sudden show up. Thanks cat!

Talking about fashion, I'm a big fan of graphic t-shirts when they have a cool character on them. This one, featuring Tony the tiger from Frosted Flakes was one of those rare finds. I love vintage Kellogg's characters, they had really cool features and were really cool; nowadays, well, not so much.

I paired my uber cool t-shirt with my favorite biker jacket and, also, used a scarf with a baroque print as a gipsy-esque belt. The little garden where I took the photos looks great as a background and the colors on the trees are amazing. I really love Seoul in that way, even the most simple places can look great thanks to nature or what the Koreans have done architecturally to enhance the visual appeal of a location. It's a really nice city to live in.

// Estaba en plena sesión de fotos de este atuendo cuando un pequeño amiguín vino a visitar. Fue padre ver un gatito tratando de hacer contacto conmigo y "posando" un rato. Por supuesto, elegí su mejor foto para publicar aquí, jaja. No es fácil ver gatos o perros en Korea, entonces estuve agradablemente sorprendido por su repentina aparición. ¡Gracias gato!

Hablando de moda, me gustan mucho las camisetas gráficas cuando tienen personajes buena onda en ellas. Ésta, por ejemplo, tiene al tigre Toño de las Zucaritas y fue uno de esos hallazgos raros. Amo los personajes viejitos de Kellogg's, tenían buenos diseños y estaban muy padres; en estos días... no tanto.

Usé esta playera súper padre con mi chamarra motociclista favorita y, además, usé una bufanda con estampado barroco como un cinturón medio gitano. El pequeño jardín donde tomé las fotos funciona muy bien como escenario y los colores en los árboles son asombrosos. En esa nota, amo Seoul, hasta los lugares más simples se pueden ver muy bien gracias a la naturaleza o a lo que arquitectónicamente han hecho los coreanos para aumentar el encanto visual de una locación. Es una buena ciudad para vivir.

I heard this quote the other day and I can't keep it out of my head: "If you're going through hell, keep going". Those are the only words I've ever heard from Winston Churchill, I'll admit, but I think they're powerful ones. I believe that when life is not going the way you want it to, the best you can do is keep going and, eventually, the challenges you're facing will be overcome. If you're going through hell, keep going.

The life in the city is complex, there are lots and lots of things going on all the time, some good, some bad, it's quite easy to get lost in between stages. As overwhelming as may be, I don't regret living in a hectic place; I would get bored without a little chaos every now and then.

The photos were taken at my Korean uni in what seems like an urban park. I like how the concrete floor, wooden benches and brick buildings are dissonant with the beautiful sight of trees. Those are dichotomies you only find in the big metropolitan areas. I like the color palette of this outfit and how it goes with the brown on the bench, I think it looks really nice, casual and cool.

La vida en la ciudad es compleja, hay muchas cosas sucediendo simultáneamente todo el tiempo, algunas buenas, otras malas, es fácil perderse en el camino. Por más abrumador que pueda ser, no me arrepiento de vivir en un lugar agitado; me aburriría sin un poco de caos de vez en cuando.

Las fotos las tomé en mi universidad coreana en lo que parece ser un parque urbano. Me gusta cómo el piso de concreto, las bancas de madera y los edificios de ladrillo son disonantes con la vista bien súper bonita de los árboles. Esas son dicotomías que sólo encuentras en las áreas metropolitanas. Me gusta la paleta de colores en este atuendo y cómo va bien con el café de la banca, creo que se ve buena onda, casual pero padre.

How to shop ASOS

I've been shopping at www.Asos.com for a couple of years now and it didn't quite hit me that it's not as easy as it seems. A lot of my friends had had issues and, let's say it this way, their experience hasn't been the best; that's why I came up with the idea of sharing my knowledge and tips for shopping at this amazing online store.

For those of you who aren't familiar, Asos is the largest online store in the world. Their headquarters are on the UK and they have free international shipping. FREE. I'm going to center on Latin America and Asia since those are the places where I've placed an order. So, here are a few guidelines:

1. You should always order less than 50 pounds or 80 dollars in order to avoid paying unnecessary import duties. If you have an order that exceeds that amount, separate it in different orders. 

2. Your order will take around 3-4 weeks before it arrives, but trust me, the items are worth waiting.

3. The sizes are really similar to the ones at H&M and a little bigger than those in Zara (I'm a small at H&M and a medium at Zara; I'm a small at Asos). Shoe size is really accurate.

4. Make sure you read the whole page of every item to understand the materials and not be surprised when the items arrive. The photos may be deceitful. If you don't like the items for some reason, Asos takes care of the refund/exchange/return. Same thing goes for missing orders.

And some tips from a savvy customer:

1. If your credit/debit card is rejected, it might be blocked for shopping in the UK. A simple call to your bank will fix that.

2. If you're not sure about quality, sizing and/or materials, place a small order first. I'm sure you'll go back for more.

3. I always shop the outlet, rarely the main collection. It's way cheaper and still super cool. Asos is one of the trendiest stores out there and carry billions of brands to satisfy everyone's taste. Subscribe to their newsletter, it often includes discount codes.

He estado comprando en www.Asos.com por un par de años y no caí en cuanta que realmente no es tan fácil como parece. Muchos de mis amigos han tenido problemitas aquí y allá y, digámoslo así, su experiencia no ha sido la mejor; por eso se me ocurrió compartir mi conocimiento y unos tips para comprar en esta increíble tienda en línea.

Para todos aquellos que no están familiarizados, Asos es la tienda online más grande del mundo. Sus cuarteles generales están en Reino Unido y tienen envío gratis internacional. GRATIS. Para esta guía, me voy a centrar en Latinoamérica y Asia porque son los lugares donde he hecho una orden. Así que aquí van un par de instrucciones:

1. Siempre ordenen menos de 50 libras u 80 dólares para no pagar multas e impuestos innecesarios. Si tienen una orden que excede esa cantidad, sepárenla en varias órdenes.

2. La orden tardará entre 3-4 semanas antes de llegar, pero créanme, la espera vale la pena.

3. Las tallas son muy similares a las de H&M y un poquito más grandes que en Zara (soy talla chica en H&M y soy mediano en Zara; soy chico en Asos). La talla de calzado es súper atinada.

 4. Asegúrense de leer toda la información de cada pieza para entender los materiales y no ser sorprendidos cuando las cosas lleguen. Las fotos pueden ser engañosas. Si no les gusta lo que pidieron por alguna razón, Asos se encarga de reembolsar/cambiar/devolver. Lo mismo va para las órdenes perdidas.

Y ahora unos tips de un cliente sabio (yo):

1. Si su tarjeta de crédito/débito internacional es rechazada, quizá está bloqueada para comprar en Reino Unido. Una simple llamada al banco arreglará eso.

2. Si no están seguros de la calidad, tallas o materiales, hagan primero una orden pequeña. Seguro que vuelven por más.

3. Yo siempre compro en el outlet, o sea rebajas, casi nunca en la colección principal. Es mucho más barato y aún súper padre. Asos es una de las tiendas más vanguardistas que hay y tienen millones de marcas para satisfacer el gusto de todos. Subscríbanse a su newsletter, seguido incluye códigos de descuento.

Asymmetrical State Of Mind.

I'm wearing:

So, umm... Valentine's Day... I really don't like that date. It's just a reminder of ye ol' me not having a girlfriend (for another consecutive year) and it sucks. So, for this special day, I choose to be on an asymmetrical state of mind. How does that work, you may ask. Well, asymmetry means having parts that fail to correspond to one another; so, even when my heart hurts, me as a whole will remain strong.

Speaking of asymmetry, I discovered the most amazing Korean brand and it's called Codes Combine. Their emphasis is on asymmetry, skin tight fits, unisex clothing. They have the greatest things, such as this t-shirt which I absolutely adore because I've never seen anything like it on the men's section of any store. Not only has a unique fit, it also possess a cut&sew panel that makes it even more awesome.

The location for the photos is a little wooden structure that's close to my apartment in Seoul; I went there once with my friend Martin and, ever since then, thought it would be a great place to shoot an outfit. I like the wooden floor and the rooftops on the background. I think my boots look really cool in this kind of setting. Oh, and I must mention, I was freezing to death but really wanted to show the great shape of this outfit. So, yeah, I risked my life for you guys!

// Y... bueno, San Valentín... No me gusta esta fecha. Para este viejo lobo de mar, es un recordatorio de que no tengo novia (por otro año consecutivo) y eso apesta. Así que, en honor a este día tan especial, decido estar en un estado mental asimétrico. Cómo funciona eso, se podrían preguntar. Pues, asimetría significa tener partes que fallan en la correspondencia la una con la otra; así, aunque mi corazón duele, yo en general permanezco fuerte.

Hablando de asimetría, descubrí la marca coreana más buena onda del mundo, se llama Codes Combine. Su énfasis está en cosas asimétricas, cortes súper ajustados, ropa unisex. Tienen cosas bien padres, como esta playera que amo absolutamente porque nunca he visto algo similar en la sección de hombres en otras tiendas. No sólo tiene un talle único, también tiene un añadido de ramitas que la hace aún más increíble.

Para estas fotos encontré una estructura de madera cerca de mi departamento en Seoul; fui una vez con mi amigo Martin y, desde entonces pensé que sería un gran lugar para tomar un atuendo. Me gusta la madera en el piso y los techos en la parte posterior. Creo que mis botas se ven padres en este tipo de escenario. Oh, y debo mencionar, me estaba congelando de frío pero realmente quería mostrar la gran forma de este atuendo. Así que sí, ¡arriesgué mi vida otra vez por ustedes!

Stranger in an Alley.

I'm wearing:

Every time I shoot with my tripod on a random street I wonder: "what would people think I'm doing?"; especially in Korea, where I look all foreigner and stuff. Do they think I'm a tourist who is crazy about self-portraits? Do they think I'm a celebrity? Haha! The latter one would be amazing, tho. 

But really, I think I became a stranger in an alley; whereas, in normal life, I'm the one judging and trying to get away from that funny character in the shadows. Burglars and criminals aside, is it really that bad to be the stranger in an alley? To have some mystery in what you do? I'm still not sure about the answer but, preliminary, I say NO, it's not bad to be the weird kid taking hundreds of photos of himself in the street.

And sometimes, if you're lucky, a nice guy will come and ask you if you need any help with the photos. That was the case this time. One of my neighbors (Nick) became my photographer for the day. No questions, just a helping hand. For that, I'll be forever grateful. 

// Cada vez que tomo fotos con mi tripié en alguna calle al azar, me pregunto: "¿qué pensará que estoy haciendo la gente?"; especialmente en Korea, donde me veo todo extranjero y así. ¿Pensarán que soy un turista loco por los autorretratos? ¿Pensarán que soy una celebridad? ¡Jaja! Eso no estaría nada mal.

Pero en serio, creo que me convertí en el extraño del callejón; cuando, en la vida normal, yo soy el que juzga y trata de huir de ese personaje raro en las sombras. Quitando a los ladrones y criminales, ¿está tan mal ser el extraño del callejón? ¿Tener un poco de misterio en lo que haces? Aún no estoy seguro de la respuesta pero, preliminarmente, digo NO, no está mal ser el chavito raro tomando cientos de fotos de sí mismo en la calle.

Y a veces, si tienes suerte, una buena persona vendrá y preguntará si necesitas ayuda con tus fotos. Ese fue el caso esta vez. Uno de mis vecinos (Nick) se convirtió en mi fotógrafo del día. Sin preguntas, sólo echándome una mano. Por eso, estaré siempre agradecido.
